At a 1:12 planning ratio, every inch of vertical rise needs about one foot of ramp run before landings. Turns, doors, handrails, edge protection, drainage, and a stable approach add space.
ADA is context, not automatic approval
Federal ADA design standards govern covered facilities and can be useful reference material, but a private single-family home is generally controlled by local residential codes, zoning, permits, program rules, and the occupant’s needs. Ask the local building department which rules apply.
